Hunt Students Get a Front-Row Seat to Global Logistics
The Big Picture: Five business students from UTEP’s Woody L. Hunt College of Business recently took part in Amazon’s Operations Externship Program, gaining hands-on exposure to leadership roles in one of the world’s most advanced supply chain environments.
Hosted at the El Paso Amazon Fulfillment Center in Far East El Paso, the three-day immersive experience provided a deep dive into the operations behind Amazon’s logistics network.
Why it matters: The externship bridged the gap between classroom learning and real-world application, allowing students to shadow an Area Manager, explore different roles within operations, and engage with Amazon leaders.
Students gained insights into supply chain efficiency, team leadership, and strategic decision-making — critical skills for future careers in logistics and finance.
Who participated:
- 3 Operations and Supply Chain Management students
- 2 Finance students
Inside the experience:
- Day 1 – Orientation, site tour, and introduction to the Area Manager role.
- Day 2 – Observing leadership meetings, team collaboration, and career discussions with Amazon.
- Day 3 – Deep dive into ongoing projects and strategic operations.
Between the lines: Beyond learning about logistics and management, students observed Amazon’s culture of innovation and problem-solving as key factors in driving success. Interacting with recent college hires provided additional career insights.
