“It takes more than two to tango: Recording the music of Astor Piazzolla”
This presentation explores my research and recording of the music by modern tango master, Astor Piazzolla, who modernized and invigorated the tango genre by incorporating classical and jazz elements. Today his music can be heard in major concert halls around the world. The recording process usually takes months and years of selecting and learning the music, rehearsing, recording, editing and producing, but all the technology cannot replace a good performance. That said, the Piazzolla da Camera Trio has performed Piazzolla’s music for more than fifteen years, and their performances have been prized by Piazzolla’s biographer Maria Susana Azzi: “… this remarkable trio performs with grand mastery, expressing the drama and pathos, passion and power of Piazzolla’s breathtaking music…a whole world of tango that is wild, tender, caressing, brutal and melancholic. Their performance will steal your heart.”
